Have you ever felt so inspired the moment you step into a beautiful Airbnb or hotel? You just feel so stress free in the new environment? Almost like your creativity has come back? What if we could turn our OWN environments into our safe space, the space where our creativity thrives? It’s absolutely possible. Here’s what I did to my own space:
Step one: Clean out and clear out EVERYTHING. I went through every drawer, closet, shelf, etc and cleaned out every single area or item that brought zero value, need or happiness into my life. Avoid getting rid of things you will have to rebuy in a month (ex: hangers). I slimmed down on my coffee cups, clothes, old beauty products, and so much more. I also cleaned out my kitchen. I’m still shocked by all of the empty containers & old food I had piled everywhere!
Step two: Move it around! I love to re arrange my furniture whenever my space starts to feel cluttered or cramped. Even just a few tweaks leaves me and my space feeling open, inviting and exciting again.
Step Three: Plants! Plants are something that really warm up a space and make it inviting again. I have about 10 real plants and 15 fake plants! I researched the type of plants that would do best in particular areas of my home (lighting, how high or low it is on the ground) to ensure their longevity and vibrance. And honestly, if you can’t handle real plants: fake ones are fine! Just find the ones that don’t look TOO fake. I found that Ikea and Home Goods have a good selection.
Step Four: Clean as you go. I hated the process of getting into this, but it has changed the game for me. If something takes less than two minutes: I do it immediately (ex: dishes, laundry, trash, shoes). At the end of everyday or beginning, add in a 5-10 minute clean up to finish the rest!
Step Five: Fill your space only with the HIGH vibe items. When I cleaned out, I cleaned out everything that gives me ‘medium vibes’. Random items that are ‘meh’ don’t have a place UNLESS they are purposeful (hangers, dishes are purposeful). When it comes to decor and clothes: only the best survive. I filled my space with decor that means something to me: wedding photos, trinkets from my travel, books that I love.
Step Six: Choose colors that bring out the emotions you want to feel. It’s proven that colors bring out certain feelings in us, brands use these colors to help sway us into liking their products or to FEEL something specific. Yellow and orange brings out joy, optimism and happiness, light blue is trustworthy and open. Figure out what colors bring you the emotions you want to feel in your space.
